Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) - Summary
- Provides emergency nursing care to diverse patient populations across the lifespan

- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emergency nursing best practices, procedures, and legal considerations
Duties & Responsibilities
- Apply the nursing process in direct patient care, including comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Skillfully triage patients according to established Triage Policy, prioritizing care based on acuity
- Document patient assessments and interventions in the ED nursing system at least every two hours, or more frequently as necessary
- Intervene promptly when abnormal findings are identified, such as compromised airway, breathing, or circulation
- Interpret and utilize pre-hospital forms to coordinate continuity of care
- Deliver evidence-based emergency nursing care, maintaining proficiency with current protocols and procedures
- Remain knowledgeable about legal aspects of emergency care, including EMTALA laws, medical/legal examinations, and reporting requirements for abuse or neglect
- Follow procedures for coroners’ reports, after-care instructions, and documentation
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot technical equipment such as chest tubes, drainage systems, auto-transfusers, cardio-respiratory monitors, arterial lines, central venous pressure monitors, Swanz-Ganz catheters, intracranial pressure devices, crash carts, defibrillators, ambu bags, oxygen saturation monitors, fluid warmers, 12-lead ECGs, and pacemakers
- Competently use the ReddiNet communication system to coordinate emergency responses

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) considered with relevant experience
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
- Experience in emergency nursing or acute care setting highly desirable
- Working knowledge of emergency medical protocols, triage systems, and legal requirements
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to function effectively under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing situations
