IT Support Specialist (IT Support Technician, IT Help Desk) - Summary
The IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive technical assistance to end-users, both remotely and on-site. This role encompasses troubleshooting hardware and software issues, setting up new equipment, maintaining IT assets, and ensuring the smooth operation of desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals. The specialist documents technical procedures and resolutions, manages service tickets via IT service management tools, and supports the deployment and upgrade of technology within the organization. With a focus on customer service and technical excellence, this position is critical to maintaining high standards of IT support and user satisfaction.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, professional on-site and remote technical support to end-users for desktops, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve a variety of hardware and software issues, including those related to operating systems, productivity suites, and specialized applications.
- Assist users with software installations, updates, and basic training as needed to ensure optimal use of technology resources.
- Set up and configure new computers and IT equipment at user locations, ensuring proper installation and connectivity.
- Replace or upgrade hardware components, including memory, hard drives, and other critical parts as required.
- Utilize IT service management (ITSM) tools to log, track, and update service requests and incident tickets efficiently.
- Document all technical resolutions, standard operating procedures, and asset changes to maintain accurate records and facilitate knowledge sharing.
- Travel within facilities or to nearby locations as necessary to provide hands-on support and equipment deployment.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to resolve complex technical issues and improve IT processes.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT field support, technical support, or a related role.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Locution or similar public safety technology platforms.
- Experience working within government or public safety environments is highly preferred.
- Basic IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent are preferred and will be considered a strong asset.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and a customer-focused approach to resolving technical issues.
- Proficiency in the use of ITSM platforms for ticket management and documentation.
- Ability to travel within facilities and to nearby locations as required for technical support tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
