Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – School Nurse 1:1 Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – School Nurse 1:1 position offers a unique opportunity to provide direct nursing care to a student with complex medical needs. This role includes close collaboration with educators, transportation staff, and healthcare professionals to ensure the student's safety and well-being both in the classroom and during travel. Working in this capacity allows you to leverage your clinical expertise in G-tube feedings, tracheostomy care, and seizure response in a supportive, consistent environment, making a tangible difference in a young person's educational journey.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 nursing care for a medically fragile elementary student throughout the school day and during transportation.
- Manage and monitor G-tube feedings to ensure proper nutrition and hydration.
- Provide expert tracheostomy (trach) care, monitoring airway status and responding promptly to any issues.
- Continuously observe for seizure activity, initiate appropriate interventions, and document all health-related events accurately.
- Assist with all activities of daily living (ADLs), including mobility, hygiene, toileting, and feeding, for a fully dependent student.
- Accompany the student on the school bus or van each day, ensuring safety and immediate care if needed; all transportation time is paid work time.
- Collaborate with school staff, follow individualized healthcare plans, and maintain open communication with the student's family and care team.
- Document all care provided in compliance with medical and educational guidelines.
- Support an inclusive, positive learning environment for the student by respecting confidentiality and upholding professional standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current, active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Georgia.
- Demonstrated experience with G-tube feedings and tracheostomy care.
- Ability to effectively monitor and respond to seizure activity.
- Comfort working with and providing care for a fully dependent student.
- Reliable transportation and a strong record of attendance.
- School-based or pediatric nursing experience preferred, but not required.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
