The Medical Oncologist (MD/DO), Locum Tenens role primarily covers hospital rounding and outpatient clinic services. The position is structured to accommodate a manageable patient census and is supported by a robust team, including medical assistants (MA), registered nurses (RN), nurse practitioners/physician assistants (NP/PA), and nurse navigators. You will work collaboratively with these professionals to ensure seamless care coordination and optimal patient outcomes. With access to Epic EMR, this assignment supports efficient documentation and communication within the healthcare system.
The locum tenens Medical Oncologist assignment features a call rotation of 1:4 to 1:5 for weekend and evening coverage. During business hours, the schedule runs from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. The call responsibilities are designed to be reasonable, with an average of 5 calls per day and 2-3 calls per night. The position does not require procedural skills such as bone marrow biopsies, as these are managed by interventional radiology; your primary focus will be on prescribing chemotherapy, supervising inpatient services, and leading the oncology care team with advanced practice providers and nurse navigation support.
Credentialing is streamlined, allowing for expedited onboarding of qualified candidates. The hospital covers travel expenses and is open to licensing providers who do not currently hold a Colorado state medical license. Candidates must be board certified in medical oncology and possess at least 3-5 years of post-training experience. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, as is a commitment to excellent communication and strong clinical experience in solid tumor and both benign and malignant hematology.
