Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) – Healthcare Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) – Healthcare is responsible for leading, designing, and managing electrical systems for healthcare facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety codes. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, this role requires a high level of technical expertise, project management skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions. The successful candidate will mentor junior engineers, interact directly with clients, and contribute to business development initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Pre-Design Engineering:
- Conduct field surveys for electrical system design and prepare site assessment reports.
- Develop electrical schematic designs tailored to healthcare environments.
- Design Engineering:
- Create power single line and riser diagrams to ensure robust and reliable electrical distribution.
- Perform electrical calculations including arc flash, coordination, short circuit, voltage drop, and load flow analysis using ETAP/SKM.
- Select appropriate lighting fixtures and power equipment for hospital and clinical settings.
- Design and complete lighting and power circuiting, ensuring energy efficiency and code compliance.
- Coordinate and implement lighting control systems.
- Layout and design fire alarm devices in accordance with International Fire Code and NFPA 72 standards.
- Develop fire alarm riser diagrams, calculations, and operational sequences.
- Prepare detailed plans, elevations, schedules, and comprehensive design details.
- Apply CAD/BIM standards, ensuring best practices are followed in all documentation.
- Ensure compliance with California Electrical Code and Energy Standards for both medium- and low-voltage systems.
- Collaborate with mechanical, plumbing, telecom, civil, structural, and architectural teams to deliver integrated designs.
- Edit and finalize project specifications for clarity and accuracy.
- Project Management:
- Lead multiple large-scale healthcare projects, collaborating with senior engineers and sub-consultants.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Independently prepare client proposals and technical documentation.
- Support business development efforts and foster strong client relationships.
- Construction Administration:
- Review and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) during construction phases.
- Evaluate and approve equipment submittals for compliance with specifications.
- Perform punch walks, prepare punch lists, and ensure project close-out requirements are met.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, with a focus on healthcare projects preferred.
- Proven ability to lead projects and manage design teams.
- Demonstrated experience in project management and client interaction.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, ETAP/SKM, and Revit software.
- Familiarity with HCAI requirements for healthcare facility design.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
