As a Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST), your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safe and effective decontamination, sterilization, and processing of reusable medical devices and surgical instruments. You will play a crucial role in supporting clinical operations by adhering to established protocols for cleaning, assembling, labeling, packaging, and storing medical equipment in compliance with manufacturers’ instructions and regulatory standards. Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST) - Summary
- Supports clinical departments by receiving, inspecting, decontaminating, and sterilizing reusable medical devices and surgical instruments
- Ensures compliance with established protocols and regulatory standards for instrument processing
- Prepares, assembles, labels, and stores surgical instrument sets and specialty trays for use in various healthcare settings
- Monitors sterilization effectiveness and verifies proper functioning of equipment
- Plays a pivotal role in infection prevention and operational readiness
Duties & Responsibilities
- Apply fundamental principles of microbiology related to medical supply operations and sterilization techniques
- Utilize knowledge of aseptic principles, detergents, cleaning methods, sterilization mediums, and sterilizer operation
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of assembly, disassembly, and operation of surgical instruments and medical devices
- Exercise sound judgment when selecting cleaning methods, sterilization mediums, and resolving minor equipment issues
- Receive, disassemble, and inspect reusable instruments for damage and contamination
- Determine and apply correct decontamination and sterilization processes, including the use of ultrasonic and washer disinfecting equipment
- Examine items post-decontamination to ensure cleanliness and functionality
- Accurately label and identify medical devices and surgical instruments for various clinical departments
- Assemble and prepare specialty trays and instrument sets using inventory sheets, ensuring proper sterilization and packaging
- Select appropriate wrapping/packaging materials and sterilization processes according to instructions for use (IFU)
- Monitor sterilizer operations using computer panels, biological testing, and indicator tapes
- Receive, inspect, and store sterilized items, verifying the integrity of sterilization and proper storage practices
- Fulfill case cart requisition forms and respond to special or emergency supply requests

Qualifications & Requirements
- Completion of a recognized central sterile supply training course
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) credential required
- At least two years of continuous experience as a Sterile Processing Technician within the last four years
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English for effective communication
- U.S. citizenship is a requirement
